NIPS

Network-based Intrusion Prevention Systems

NIPS are a form of IPS and usually implement either a sniffer or NIDS and a border gateway in conjunction with a firewall to block attacks before they reach the target host at the network layer. Many of these are integrated with SIMS applications or appliances.
